Introduction:

In the post, we discuss the new variant of corona(COVID-19) spread in the UK. As of 13 December, 1,108 cases with this new variant have been admitted in hospitals predominantly in the south and east of England.

The variant came to light in early December because of the UK's phenomenal genomic surveillance system for covid-19. After looking at genomic analysis and epidemiological evidence of increased transmission, the Public Health England (PHE) concluded that "the new variant was showing signs of increased transmissibility."

It looks 3 new variants of covid are identified in one month, the mink variant, the kent variant,and the latest from South Africa. All are more virulent.
